Our church here in Ukraine, Living Word, is entering an exciting new season, as God has blessed us with a new meeting place after 9 years of praying and searching. He has given us a wide-open field of opportunities by planting us in the midst of an area of Lviv where there is very little influence of true Christianity. We are expecting to see God do mighty things in this new season at Living Word!
One thing that we need to develop is a children’s ministry. We worked with what we had in the past, which meant providing Sunday School in the one room we had available – a musty, dank storage room with no windows and little lighting. No place for babies and trying to manage children, ages 2-7, in the same room. We did the best we could, but it wasn’t easy!
In our new meeting place, the Lord has blessed us with 4 rooms! That means we can have a separate Sunday School & nursery. I have been asked to organize & oversee the nursery for babies – 3 years old, and am so excited about this opportunity. I was given the same opportunity at my church in Franklin, TN, where I filled that role for a year before coming back to Ukraine. I’m so thankful for the experience that time afforded me, preparing me for this new season of organizing the nursery at Living Word. Thank you, New River Fellowship, for giving me that opportunity and helping me to grow in my giftings!
In 2 Timothy 3:15, Paul tells Timothy, “You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus.” In studying this verse, I found that the Greek word translated as “childhood” is brephos and means “an infant (properly unborn)” (as opposed to the Greek word, paidion, used in Matt. 19:13-14, which means “a child, an infant, a half-grown boy or girl”). I count it such a privilege anytime God gives me the opportunity to work with the youngest children, knowing that it is an incredible opportunity to teach them the Scriptures, to speak life & blessing over them, to get them ready for one day having the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. As I have had training meetings for our nursery volunteers at Living Word Church, I have been so blessed to see them also getting excited about this opportunity God is giving us.
The nursery is scheduled to officially open on June 2 and I look forward to sharing with you some pictures very different from the one above! Please pray that everything will come together as it should and that God would bless this ministry, the volunteers, and the children. Pray also that, through providing a safe place for their children, many parents will come to Living Word, find salvation through faith in Jesus, and be discipled to love & serve Him!
